Grenaa - Mecca for new energy

With the feature was both Grenaa - Mecca for new energy so says the headline on the TV2 East Jutland feature Friday the 28th October regarding the plans to establish a production of bio-methanol at port of Grenaa. With the feature was both Svend Brandstrup CEO hveiti a/s, and Lars Thomsen, Director Agro Industries A/S.

It's Lars Thomsen, who at the Nordic Renewable Methanol Conference in Aarhus the day before had announced plans to establish another biorefinery at the port of Grenaa. As shown in the feature (see videolink), creates the position close to hveiti a/s potential for synergies for the benefit of both the prospective bio-methanol production and hveiti a/s. Additionally, recent plans further evidence of an interesting unveiling on and around the port of Grenaa, which promote themselves as the new Danish environment and energy Harbor.

Mayor of Norddjurs Jan Petersen also sees great opportunities in the creation of both direct and indirect jobs: They have to draw on local service companies and there must surely be more transport. There are a lot of logistics and there are services to be performed, and then there are other companies that say hey there is something there, so we are also there, said Mayor Jan Petersen

The project is still at the concept plan and it will take approx. 4-5 years prior to produce bio-methanol in Grenaa.

Combined biorefineries without chimneys.

Svend Brandstrup CEO hveiti a/s was first to point to the benefits of cooperation between the two biorefineries. hveiti a/s is designed for a 70 % savings of greenhouse gas through a sophisticated process where all parts of the wheat are utilized in a unique and optimal way. By also transforming the fermentation air (exhaust rich in CO2) into methanol the greenhouse gas saving will be increased quite significant. Also straw and wood chips destined for the ethanol boiler house may be better processed into methanol.  Methanol and waste heat  will be sufficient for the ethanol boiler house and both refineries may even be operated without any chimneys.
